What were Hitler's reasons for the holocaust?
One of Hitler's main reasons for the holocaust was that he blamed Jews for everything. This included blaming them for Germany's loss in ww1 and also for all of Germany's economical problems. The sad part was that most of Germany believed him. Hitler was great with words and he was a man that most people fell in love with. Hitler's solution to making German citizens feel better after the loss in ww1 and the economic crisis was to ban all Jews. When doing this, he got people to agree with him by saying that it would solve all of Germany's economic issues. When Hitler moved to Vienna when he was 16 years old, the ,mayor there was extremely anti-Semitic. In Vienna, the hatred of Jews was a widespread. This is where Hitler grew a hatred for Jews. At 16 years of age Hitler was taught that Jews were bad people, and they should be treated harshly, so this is what caused him to despise Jews so much. Another reason why Hitler believed in the holocaust was because he believed that people could be divided into races. Hitler believed in the Aryan race,(blond hair and blue eyes), also known as the "Master race." He said that this race must remain pure in order to one day take over the world, meaning he hated even the idea of a person of the Aryan race being with someone of any other race. Hitler and the Nazis believed that Jews were not "people" therefor they did not deserve to be treated like people.
Concentration Camps- These prison camps were also known as death camps. This is where Hitler sent Jews, gypsies, those with mental or physical disabilities, homosexuals etc. A very famous concentration camp was Auschwitz. This was the killing center where the largest numbers of European Jews were killed during the holocaust. Mass murder was a daily routine. Upon arrival children were often killed and children born on the camp were often killed on the spot. Eventually to save expenses and gas, they sent living children directly into ovens or they would throw them into open burning pits. Hitler's personal army controlled these camps, the SS. Many prisoners died in these camps due to deliberate malnutrition, disease, starvation, dehydration, overwork or execution for being unfit for labor. Gas chambers were also very common. The SS would tell the prisoners that it was time to shower. They would bring a great amount of people into what looked like showers, little did these people know, they walked into gas chambers. Bodies upon bodies were piled up at these camps. It is estimated that around 11 million people were killed during the Holocaust. 6 million of these were Jews. The Nazis killed approximately 2/3s of all Jews living in Europe at that time. Also an estimated 1.1 million children were murdered in the Holocaust and only 1 million Jews survived.
